Petrea Noyes

For many years I was content to make paintings in the usual way- oil on canvas, acrylic on paper, collages- whatever. However, when I got my first computer in 1982 things began to change for me. I started thinking that art is pretty much what a person saw or made of a thing, and that for me the use of my computer took the place of my paint brush. I now work on combining computer-manipulated photo images (mostly large scale pieces) with multiple oil glaze layers I want my viewer to ask “Is that a photo or a watercolor or what?” And “How did she do that?” The photo becomes more than just a snapshot- something in between an oil painting and an assemblage.
